How To Ask ‘Will You Be My Bridesmaid?’

One of the most frequently asked questions is ‘How do I ask – Will you Be My Bridesmaid?’

Once you have decided on which girls you would like to be in the wedding party, finding the right time and location is the next step.

In addition to how and where to ask the girls, be prepared for Plan B. Sometimes for any number of reasons the girls who you would like to be attendants will decline. At least they are being honest, maybe the reason is financial, maybe it is too much of a time commitment. Do not take it personally!

WHO TO ASK FIRST
If you are having a Maid of Honor ask her first, then the bridesmaids and finally the flower girl’s mother, then the flowergirl.

ASKING A FLOWERGIRL
If you are planning to include a flowergirl in your wedding party, ask her parents first to see how they feel about the responsability and expense, then ask the girl herself – And her parents MUST be invited to the wedding!

CHOOSE A LOCATION
Choose a private intimate moment, one without too may outside distractions. Invite each one for lunch individually, either at your place, a small restaurant or have a picnic in a park. The location should be one that she will feel comfortable in and one that will allow her to speak openly about what is expected from her.

ASK FROM THE HEART
Assuming that you have already announced your engagement, your close friends and family will be anxiously waiting to be asked to be your bridesmaid. Nothing sounds worse than something rehearsed, so just let it the words flow from your heart.

Be prepared to answer lots of questions like who will pay for what? and what your expectations are.

This is the best time to establish guidelines about who makes the final decision on important matters and what is important to you – be very clear on that.

If your best buddy declines the invitation to be your bridesmaid, respect her honestly and remain good friends, maybe you could find and alternate responsibility for her.
